Bob Koster
spent over thirty years in film and TV production as a Unit Production Manager and First Assistant Director on everything from hundreds of TV commercials for such products as airlines, cars, and shaving cream (Remember the old Noxzema ad? "Take it off! Take it all off!") to Feature Films like Hello Dolly!, and Man in the Glass Booth, to TV series such as Police Story to the ultimate novel-for-TV, War and Remembrance. Semi retired now, I decided to relax :-) by teaching. I have taught the class in Film Production Planning at USC. And you can visit one of my classrooms at UCLA Extension where I teach Production Management, Line Producing, and Scheduling and Budgeting using computers. As if that weren't enough,
I also have concentrated more on lecturing for universities and groups on the origins of film and film development in various genres. Knock knock! Who's there? Oswego! Oswego who? "Oswego, into the wild
blue yonder..." When I was a kid I always wanted to join the Army Air
Corps. Guess that dates me. Anyway, it's all growed up now and is fascinating.

and facts about space, satellites, and the latest state-of-the-art airframes.

One of the pleasures of having my own home page is to share my delights
with my friends. I have always admired superb craftsmanship in any realm, but
especially: Classic Automobiles such as the 
, a car of magnificent design in the era when safety and
ecology hadn't legislated all the fun out of driving.
Of all the Bugattis made, and about 7500 were, the six known as "La
Royale" were undoubtedly the most cherished of all time. When new, in 1931
or so, they sold for $50,000, at a time when the average person took home
$10-$15 salary per week.
All six cars still exist, and the last one sold for over $15,000,000.

Would you like to set your watch to the National Bureau of Standards?
Art. It elevates the soul, feeds the psyche. Separates us from the lower
orders of animals. A feast for the eyes. Some art is extraordinary and exists
in a class by itself. Such are the Paintings in the French caves at Vallon -
Pont d'Arc (Ardeche).
These were only discovered in 1994, and look as if they were painted yesterday.
Try to ignore the fact that these are 30,000 years old. Thirty thousand years!
Then ponder for a moment that the artist, in the middle of France, painted not
only horses and cattle, but also Penguins and Rhinoceros! How did they get to
France? And the paintings themselves are exquisite. Enjoy them.

The liveliest art. Showbiz. Tinseltown. Moom pitchers. The Cinemaaahhh.
Call it what you will, we all owe our livelihoods to the artistry of two men
who founded the industry. Almost everything we have done since is in imitation
of these two.
Sir Charles Chaplin, arguably the
greatest director, writer, producer, composer, editor, and, oh yes, comedic
actor of all time,
and
David Wark Griffith, the man who invented the movie industry.
Most of you probably did not know this, but when I was in college my
favorite sport was Fencing!
It is almost a lost art now. I saw a foil competition about six years ago at
Cal Tech for the Western championship and the competitors were using Sabre
moves with Foils! What blasphemy!
