DRAMATICA
RECENT PRESS REVIEWS:

"Yes, my Dramatica-shaped story is significantly different that my original story. I feel the new version has much better character arcs, significantly richer motivation and (as you might expect) much more emphasis on the main character's central problem."
-- Creative Screenwriting, Summer 1995.

"By helping to clarify your intentions before you begin writing, Dramatica has the potential to shave weeks (possibly months!) off of the frequently frustrating, hit-or-miss rewriting process."

-- New York Screenwriter

-- Computer Video Magazine

SOME COMMENTS FROM USERS:

I finished the first draft story outline of a piece I've been working on for a couple of months. It came together EXACTLY as I had envisioned it. While I credit myself for a large part of that, endless accolades must go out to Dramatica. The program forced me to focus on exactly what I wanted to do. It also gave me great insights as to how to do much of it. You guys really did a job with this program.

Dramatica is one awesome tool!

Joseph J. Jolton

Dramatica has helped me see the Whole Picture and made my stories alot rounder than before.

GLNDAVMAG

I LOVE this software! You and yours have my deepest gratitude. That you offer different approaches to the process is extraordinary in software, period, but also indispensable for a creative modeler like this.

Rosanne Johnston

I'm amazed at those moments when Dramatica makes assumptive leaps that are right-on!

Jefferson Berlin

Thanks for a terrific program. Out of the box and without even looking at the manual, I used it to help me find a problem in a script I had written and optioned a couple years ago, but attracted no further interest. Then I read the manual, and have since been using it to outline a novel.

John Michael Flynn

I was intrigued enough by the recent write-up of "Dramatica" in the current issue of the Writers Guild Journal to order a copy of the theory book from your company. I am pausing after just a few pages to give you this feedback: The first four pages are perhaps the most intellectually elegant and profoundly reframing words I have *ever* read concerning the idea of "story."

Jim Boke Tomlin

I've just purchased version 1.0 of Dramatica for the Macintosh, and I'm writing to say how much I like the product. I found Dramatica easy to use and arrived at a storyform after my first session with the product.

Tim North

It's a wonderful program, Melanie, and I appreciate your work. Dramatica certainly makes it much easier to outline a story and the characters.

John Paul Burke

I would like to say again how much differently I view stories and scripts since purchasing Dramatica.

Anthony Miller

Congratulations on a great software! I've only studied Dramatica for three weeks now, but am fascinated by its comprehensiveness. I'm currently in the process of rewriting a script that I had nearly completed a month ago. Dramatica pointed out the weaknesses in my story structure in the first seven days after installation.

Jan Wellmann

On the whole have found the program extremely useful in my work. (I am a tv writer with 10 years experience).

Fred J. Graver

If the computer magazines ever rated the Customer Service departments of today's software companies, Screenplay would receive top honors, for sure (especially for your handling of customer relations). If you ever need an endorsement, just call me.

Ron Weissman

"Dramatica" I came to know by a friend of mine and hesitated first because it seemed me to be too "puffed up" and complicated - who needs 32,768 Storyforms? Anyway, I changed my mind when I saw my friend becoming a typical "victim of the Dramatica effect". As it seems he infected some of us... I will keep you informed about my experiences with your software when I used "Dramatica" for my next movie project.

Edoardo Ricoza

Love the product, by the way. Lots to learn, but is better than a good dozen books I have on Plot and Theory.

Donald J. Tingle

As I said on-line I think you've got a great program here, one I'm looking forward to getting to know better. It's so easy to criticize, isn't it? Writers of all people should know that. As you say though, those who are satisfied are likely too busy writing to bother speaking up. I'm glad I did.

Ken Ross

Obviously I would not be writing if I had not derived a great deal of enjoyment and many productive hours from Dramatica. It is an impressive and graceful achievement.

Derrick Smith

First, Kudos to your product. YOU stumbled across my name from some mailing list and it was love at first sight. I'm a physician, computer techie, inventor and writer. My computer interests have mainly been in expert systems, so I'm naturally excited about Dramatica. Being a detail person, I often lose sight of the big picture, which is impossible if you are using Dramatica. I particularly like the requirement that all the storyforming elements must be in place BEFORE storytelling can begin. Logical, but so often writers are anything but that.

Michael O'Laughlin

Another attractive feature about Dramatica is its ability to help you figure out why something doesn't seem to be quite right about your story. Niggling little story holes, logical inconsistencies, etc. become apparent in Dramatica.

Glenn Mitchell

AND FINALLY, SOME MORE REVIEWS FROM THE PRESS:

RATING: EXCELLENT - "The most versatile and dynamic program of its kind, Dramatica is a sophisticated, intuitive tool that can benefit both the novice and professional."
Writers' Digest, Software Review

"Dramatica is innovative. It's revolutionary. It's different from anything else out there dealing with story creation. Dramatica provides a writer with a creative advantage: getting your story right before you sit down to write."

Mac Digest, Software Review

"The program can instantaneously show the effect of altering a character's motivation, goal, or personality on the story as a whole."

Emmy Magazine Review

"Dramatica also challenges you to think of specific examples of all your story's thematic and structural elements, ensuring that your story is complete and consistent."

The Journal by the Writers Guild of America, West

"...a new software program that helps your creative juices flow."

CNN, Showbiz Today

"A computer program to help the Steven Spielbergs of tomorrow work their way through writer's block."

CNN, Future Watch
"Dramatica is wonderful for people who want to become better writers."
Weekly Variety, July 17, 1994

"...a script consultant on-line."

Headline News

"If you got your eyes on Hollywood, don't despair; help comes in the form of a computer program called Dramatica."

CNN, Future Watch

"Dramatica represents one of the most important innovations in screenwriting theory and structure, that could easily become a standard of storytelling integrity in the entertainment industry. Its use in the academic community can help revolutionize the way screenwriting is taught in professional programs as well."

Don Zirpola, Chairman Communication Arts, Loyola Marymount University

"It's a very interesting piece of software. It seems to be much more predictive about the form a story can take. That's the thing that is compelling. It does get you thinking about a story on a lot of levels. It predicted the kind of ending on a project that I am currently working on."

Michael Backes, Co-scripter of Rising Sun

It's a writer's dream come true. I particularly like the fact that writers can start at any point and develop exceptionally well integrated plots, characters, and conflicts."

Richard A. Blum, Director, Motion Picture Division, University of Central Florida

AND HERE'S A LONGER REVIEW:

I've been in a trance the past few days ever since I passed the 3-day learning curve using a terrific new writing program called Dramatica.

I've tried the others, this one REALLY gets into your story.

This "learning curve" is merely time spent becoming familiar with the new approach Dramatica applies to age-old writing technique. Once you give it time, the magic begins to unfold and I found my story becoming much deeper and enjoyable to write.

I'd recommend this program to any writer looking to add deeper meaning into their stories. My favorite section is the area that creates various reports based on the storyforming/storytelling questions you've answered. These reports create summaries of your story and cite examples based on the answers you've provided. As you read these reports, you feel great! You see you are making progress and it's presented in a professional manner.

I've tried other programs and they are all fine products, but Dramatica takes you to deeper levels. These are the places your audience wants you to take them. These are the places that sell stories.

If I were to rate the programs I've tried, I'd give top prize to this one. I first read about it in Writers Digest (1/95) and was curious since it was the only one rated "excellent" in the story development software category.

Now I see why.
